Deborah M. Field Joins NYSTLA to Lobby for Plaintiffs' Rights

Deborah M. Field, partner at Morris & Morris Attorneys, joined New York State Trial Lawyers Association (NYSTLA) in Albany to meet with State Senators and Assembly members and advocate for civil justice for plaintiffs. NYSTLA is committed to continuing its legacy as the best legislative and lobbying team fighting for clients.

"I am proud to partner with NYSTLA in its advocacy work by taking part in this worthwhile event and sharing client stories that illustrate civil justice issues," stated Ms. Field. "Many of their profiles show how antiquated laws in New York can deny justice to victims of negligence."

This year's Lobby Day, held on May 16-17, hosted over 200 NYSTLA members from throughout the state to meet with legislators to discuss fair and legal solutions for injured or deceased clients. For them, the courts are the only way to hold wrongdoers accountable for the harm they have done.

Among those topics discussed was Lavern's Law, a "grieving families" bill to update New York's outdated wrongful death statute.  Legislators are being asked to consider a measure that would initiate a medical malpractice case when an error is discovered by the patient, not when the mistake occurred, as is the current law. Governor Cuomo has been urged to pass Lavern's Law before the end of the legislative session.

Deborah M. Field Advocates for Clients at NYSTLA Lobby Day

Deborah M. Field, partner at Morris & Morris Attorneys, was featured in the New York State Trial Lawyers Association (NYSTLA) promotion of Civil Justice Lobby Day. As an attorney and member, she supports the day and its purpose by sharing client stories with legislators in the interest of advocating for clients and the Civil Justice System.

"Lobby Day gave me a great opportunity to get involved in the work NYSTLA is doing for upstate attorneys and our clients. Every Plaintiff's attorney owes it to themselves and their practice to get to Albany and join NYSTLA's Lobby Day,” Ms. Field said.

This year’s Lobby Day held on April 21-22 focused on legislation to protect construction workers who suffer elevation-related injuries, such as falling from a ladder, scaffold or roof. The annual event--considered to be one of the most important sponsored by NYSTLA—is an opportunity for attorneys to expand their advocacy beyond the courtroom and bring their message to Albany. NYSTLA's mission is about "protecting consumers, assuring that the wrongly injured have access to justice, and providing the public with ethical and well-trained lawyers."
